Target Rockville

Rockville, Maryland

729 space 5-level precast concrete parking structure

Target Rockville is located directly adjacent to the subway construction zone of the Rockville Red Line station for the Washington D.C. Metro. The urban site was an undeveloped tract behind an established retail corridor. To capitalize on the site location, the Owner designed a small two-level retail store with structured parking.

The parking structure and retail store are immediately adjacent to each other with a 14’-0” light court, which leads to an expansive entry area. The third level angled pedestrian bridge and second main store entry connect to the garage elevator cores. Unique quad custom hydraulic pass-through elevators were placed diagonally within the pedestrian path, which bisects the main elevator tower and helps ease wayfinding from the parking floors. All parking areas have flat floors with vertical vehicular circulation provided by a stretched single threaded two–way half helix.

Architectural stainless steel mesh provides environmental green leaf screening to economically minimize the building mass. Rooftop glasscrete planters, compromising five percent of the rooftop area, were installed to shade the roof areas to lower rooftop temperatures.

These buildings are a safe and efficient solution for a modern, urban shopping experience.
