Historic Downtown Parking Facility

St. Augustine, Florida

1,164 space 4-level precast concrete parking structure

The Historic Downtown Parking Facility (HDPF) is a multi-modal facility designed to create an organized arrival experience for visitors to the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, Florida. Strategically located at the historic city gate, the facility provides: Loading/unloading slips for tour busses and school busses; pickup/drop-off stations for private tour train vendors; horse carriage staging with horse watering trough; future city transit bus area; and extensive pedestrian plazas, loggias, concourses and arcades

Stormwater retention facilities have been incorporated into the pedestrian plaza design to create landscaped water gardens. Fabric awnings cover the bus slips on the north side of the facility. Covered pedestrian loggias are on the north, east and south sides and include provisions for future display cases, public artwork, drinking fountains and pet watering bowls. The east loggia ties the facility to the main street themed pedestrian plaza and the Visitor Information Center, which was completely renovated during the project.

Pedestrian access to the HDPF is provided through stair towers at the four corners. An additional stair/elevator tower is located on the east end to collect parking patrons and direct them to the Visitor Information Center. The PARC system is a hybrid pay-on-foot/pay-at-exit system with three entry lanes and four exit lanes. Two of the four exit lanes have cashier booths, while all four will accommodate pay-on-foot users. Pay-on-foot machines are located at three of the five stair/ elevator lobbies. The two remaining stair lobbies are designed to accommodate future pay-on-foot machines.
