2,149 space 9-level cast-in-place concrete parking structure

 

This parking structure serves the students, faculty staff and visitors on the south side of the University of Arkansas campus. The site had a 60 foot grade change that allowed the structure to be built into the hillside. There are three levels above grade on the west side and nine levels on the east side. Access is controlled by automatic parking equipment with entry/exit at Levels 1, 2, 4 and 6.

 

A central light well provides natural light to the lower levels below grade and eliminates the need to mechanically ventilate the facility.

 

Office space on the west end of the structure houses the Teaching and faculty Support Center, a branch of the University Bookstore, and the Field Services Section of the Transit and Parking Department. The bookstore provides food and beverage service, dry cleaning drop-off and car wash and service facilities in addition to the usual books and school supplies. The Field Services Section includes enforcement and maintenance operations.

 

A snow melting system is embedded in the slab at each entry and exit ramp to keep areas clear during bad weather. Metal halide lamps are used for longer life and good color rendering.
