1,209 space 6-level Precast pre-stressed concrete parking structure

The Borgata Casino is Atlantic City’s newest and most luxurious hotel and casino. With 1,200 private rooms and two large gaming areas, the thirty-five story facility required a 1,209 space parking facility dedicated solely for the Borgata employees. The six story, four bay parking structure uses a double threaded helix to handle the high peak hour volumes demanded at employee shift changes.

Walker Parking Consultants teamed with Baumgardner Construction Company and High Concrete Structures, Inc. to design/build this parking facility in only 12 months. Built upon reclaimed property that was once the Atlantic City Municipal Waste Site, the structural system is supported on deep steel pipe piles with a supported ground tier due to poor soil bearing conditions. Precast concrete double tee construction was chosen over cast-in-place systems for the ground tier to simplify the installation of the required venting system to remove methane produced by the decaying waste. Precast concrete was selected for the garage superstructure for its cost, durability and speed of construction advantages. A roof level aluminum and steel trellis provides a visual barrier of roof level parking from the hotel.

Durability enhancements included stainless steel flange connections, positive drainage and high strength concrete with a 0.38 water/cement ratio. Additionally, a silane sealer was applied to all precast concrete flat work, and a traffic bearing membrane applied to all cast-in-place concrete flatwork due to the corrosive seasonal environment.
