05-29-2009

Culver City, a significant center for motion picture and television production, recently contracted with Walker Parking Consultants to provide comprehensive parking consulting services for the City’s downtown district.   The district has enjoyed enormous success in the past several years, becoming a regional center for fine dining and entertainment.

The intent of the plan is to ensure that the City's parking system keeps pace with the needs of this increasingly popular destination while maintaining its characteristics of a livable community that also encourages future economic development.  As part of its agreement with the City, Walker Parking Consultants is preparing a parking plan that includes an analysis of the parking inventory, parking occupancy, and the overall parking conditions in the downtown area.  The project also includes an evaluation of future parking needs and the development of recommendations for the efficient management and operation of publicly-owned parking in the downtown district.  In addition to providing recommendations for the restaurant and commercial uses in the downtown area, the plan explores how other area parking generators including a hotel, movie premieres at area theatres and studios, as well as popular live playhouses performances, might impact parking in the downtown area.
